The Desert is full of many strange and unique plants to see. Just make sure not to poke a Saguaro! The plants of the Gobi are forced to make adaptations to survive the very warm and dry weather of the desert. Here you can read about some of the interesting plants you may see in the desert, and how they have adapted to their environment.
The most common plants found in the desert include cactus, small trees, and flowers. Some cactus are the Saguaro, the Organ Pipe, and the Barrel cactus. Some small trees you might see would be the Elephant Tree, the Desert Willow, the Tamarise, and the Saxaul. A few flowers that you could see on your vacation are the Desert Sage, the Desert Marigold, the Desert Lily, and the Halophyte.
Plants are very important to the animals of the desert (including you of course). The animals get most of their food and water from the plants. One example is the Halophyte, mentioned earlier, which stores water inside it's leaves and stems, which other animals take advantage of by eating the Halophyte and gaining both food and water.
While some kinds of Halophyte's seeds can become dormant because of high salinity, and germinate once the rains come, the Halophyte of the Gobi can germinate even when there is a high salinity. This is very useful for the plant, especially in this climate. A lot of plants use tactics like the Halophyte, many of which are different cacti.
